Urgent Prayer Needed
Please add your voices to ours in seeking wisdom and strength for our challenges.
Dear Faithful Friends and Supporters,
We pray this letter finds you well and rejoicing in the faithfulness of our great God. I was planning to send our next update in July, but recent events in our lives have prompted us to reach out for your prayers in a special way.
As many of you know, my health has been an ongoing challenge in recent years—triple bypass surgery, treatment monitoring for potential cancer in my throat, and more recently, a double hernia.
In our last letter, we mentioned I was on a waiting list for hernia surgery. Since then, things have worsened. Recent scans show that the intestines are now protruding on one side, making the situation more serious and more urgent. We're praying for God to move things forward on the surgical schedule, as daily tasks are becoming increasingly difficult.
But just as we were trying to manage that, another significant challenge arose. Our longtime landlord—whose property we’ve rented for nearly 20 years here in Australia—suddenly passed away of a heart attack a few weeks ago. We’ve just been informed by his family that we’ll need to vacate the home within 90 days.
As you can imagine, this has come as quite a blow. Sorting, downsizing, and packing up two decades of family and ministry life is no small task, especially in my current condition. There’s also the very real concern of where to go next. Housing availability in our area is extremely limited, and rental prices are mostly double what we currently pay. We're seeking God’s direction—whether to remain in the area or relocate elsewhere, if He is trying to move us on. We simply don’t know yet.
What we do know is that this hasn’t taken the Lord by surprise. While we didn’t see it coming, He did. And we’re trusting Him to guide us, strengthen us, and provide the clarity we need—one step at a time.
We’re so thankful for the offers of help from church members and friends here locally. Their willingness is a great blessing. But much of this process requires personal decisions and mental energy that feels in short supply at the moment. I would greatly appreciate your prayers for strength—in body, mind, and spirit—as I try to navigate these multiple burdens. We know that our Shepherd is faithful, and we want to walk this path in faith, not fear.
Please pray specifically for:
An opening for surgery sooner than later
Clarity about our next living situation
Wisdom in the decisions ahead
Strength and peace in the midst of physical and emotional exhaustion and overwhelm
We plan to include some praise reports and ministry updates as usual, but we felt it was important to share this urgent need first and ask for your prayers during this uncertain season.
Praise:
Thank you for your prayers for Donna’s salvation. She made a profession of faith a few weeks ago, and we are now asking the Lord to take her home without lengthy suffering.
We were able to give out several more BEAMS Bibles this month to some of the new 6th grade students in the public school Bible classes. We almost have enough for all the 5th grade classes, and we plan to offer them in August if possible.
Our church was blessed to have two visiting missionaries in the past month. The first was to Nepal and the last to India. It is always so encouraging and challenging to see the work being done and needed in other fields.
Thank you for standing with us—not just in the fruitful seasons, but in the valley moments too.
In Christ’s love,
Don & Angie Berg
