We’ve been talking a lot lately in our assembly about the message of Hebrews 12. I’ve used portions of the passage in a few recent sermons and some of the men have also referenced these Scriptures during our time of sharing what God has been putting on their hearts.
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. ~ Hebrews 12:2
It can be difficult to rejoice and find joy during our times of struggle or affliction. Witnessing the suffering of others from the wickedness and conflict in our world adds additional challenges to our spirit.
I have to constantly remind myself to look to Jesus and follow His example of focusing beyond the present circumstances to the joy that is to come. I wanted to share this verse with you this month in case any of you are fighting that same battle, in hopes that it will encourage you as well.
Some earthly joy…
I mentioned Tyler’s wedding in our last letter. He and Nell recently sent us some of the wedding photos, and he said I could share this one with you.
It’s such a pleasure to watch this young couple as they lay the foundation of their new life together as husband and wife. They have a genuine desire to honor the Lord in their marriage and be a witness for Him. Please pray that God will bless them and make their path straight, according to His good will.
Joys of teaching…
We are already in week 8 of the new school year and the children are loving learning about Samuel, Saul, and David, in their Religious Education classes. As we lay the foundation of faith and lead up to the Gospel presentation, please pray for their hearts to be open and filled with understanding so that many will again be saved this year.
Not so joyful events…
I appreciate your continued prayer for my health and strength. I have another throat appointment down in Brisbane on March 28. I’m hoping it will just be a quick check and biopsy, and nothing more to be done.
I am also on a waiting list to have surgery on a double hernia. It could take a year to get in, but I’m praying it will happen sooner because I can tell it’s getting worse.
A bit of joy from Angie…
Anyone who knows my wife knows that she loves kids and she loves books. Angie recently started storybookhut.com. It’s an online audio picture book library (she reads the books aloud) that is designed for children ages 1-10. There are free and paid subscriptions available if you have kids or grandkids in that age range. I know Angie would be thrilled if you take a look and give her some feedback.
The joy set before us…
As we stay focused on the joy set before us, we want to continue to thank you for all the encouragement you send our way. Your notes of encouragement, your faithful prayers, and your continued support are more valuable than you know.
Your fellow servants,
Don and Angie Berg
